Hi Jill,
By Robert Fitz John are you referring to his name before he changed it to Abraham Fitz
John Channell?
He also had a son Robert who in the 1880 census was alive at 95 on a farm in N.H.
My 2nd Great grandfather was James Taylor Channell who married Sophia Knowlton. They
emigrated to Massachusetts around 1880 or so. This is my line, he had 3 sons, Harry Lee
Channell was my great grandfather.
Alfred Channell went to military school in Vt. didn't graduate, was in the army in
Mass. Later living and working in Providence R.I. he again joined (my notes are in the
car) and I now await his war record from the school in Vermont. This was the Civil War. He
later married a southern girl and stayed down that way.
I find the Choate name interesting, Choate was a big Ipswich family. Dudley Choate married
Sally Channell, daughter of Abraham Fitz John in 1817.
I'll send you some more info in a private e-mail.
Fred
