Sorry, but I don't think we can be of help. Our branch of the Channells were
originally from England and the name was changed to Channell from Fitzjohn. Abraham
Fitzjohn Channel ran away from an indenture in London and assumed the name Channel when he
was impressed into the British navy.

Subject: Re: [CHANNELL] I'm related to all those you mention
Hi:
I'm William B. Channel (1 L) and I don't know who I'm connected with before
1842. I'd surely appreciate any information that could enlighten us as to
how our "branch" is related to other Channell's, Channel's,
Chanel's, etc.
My Great-Grandfather William Henry Channel was born in Jackson Co. TN in
1842. According to family stories, his father disappeared not too long
after his birth, and Wm. H.'s mother thought the unknown Channel was dead -
either because of Indian attack, bandits, or wild animals. No record has
been located in the past 50 years listing the unknown Channel's given name,
or where he came from, or who he might have been related to. It's always a
possibility that he may have abandoned his wife and baby and moved
elsewhere.
Wm. H. served in the KS 2nd Cavalry, having enlisted in 1863 at Garnett, KS.
He died in Barry Co., MO in 1917. None of his known military or disability
records name his father. His 3rd wife and the mother of most of his
children, Kiziah Norton Channel, died in Barry Co., MO in 1918. Both are
buried in the Mano Cemetery, Barry Co. MO, along with Wm. H.'s half-brother,
Leonidas Edward Mercer.
Wm. H.'s mother, Minerva Shadden Channel Morgan died near Neosho, MO, about
1920. Family stories indicate she was at least partially Native American
Cherokee, born in upper GA about 1816 or 1818 (various records don't agree)
and moved to Jackson Co., TN sometime prior to 1830.
Most of the early Jackson Co., TN records burned in a courthouse fire many
years ago.
Many of us in our Channel branch, covering several generations, are most
interested in learning where our ancestors came from and what families they
were known relatives to.
Thanks for hearing my tale - ANY help would be most appreciated.
Bill
