Hello Sally,
I am interested in this family as I may be descended from one of their
line. Do you have a record of a William Chaney, born about 1655, who might
be his son? Did any of Richard's sons migrate across the river to
Virginia?
My Chaney line originates in Virginia with Jacob Chaney, born in VA about
1741. I have seen many records of possible parentage but no definite
proof.
Thanks for any help that you are able to provide!

You might look at the string of Richard Cheyneys / Richard Cheneys /
Richard Chaneys in Maryland near Annapolis. The first Richard Cheyney in
America arrived before 1650. The name is the only reason it's worth a
look. I have no knowledge of a Richard Chaney of Maryland going to
Pennsylvania. I can get you started on the Maryland Chaneys if you want to
give it a try. --Sally Phillips

Richard and Rebecca are one of my 3rd great maternal grandparents. I would
like to learn the names of their parents and hope there is some one out
there working on this line. Here is some of what I know.
Richard was b. abt. 1796 Pa. and Rebecca was b. abt. the same time. They
married abt. 1814 and in the 1820 Pa. Census were living in Hopewell Twp.
Bedford Co. with their 2 daughter's under 10. These daughters would be
Mary Ann CHANEY b. abt. 1814 and d. 1880 in Iowa. Her husband was William
YOUNG. The other daughter was Elon CHANEY b. abt. 1816 d. 1867 Indiana Co.,
Pa. She was married to Benjamin C. DAVIS.
In the 1830 Pa. Census the family is still living in Hopewell, Bedford
Co., Pa. and they now have 8 children, Elizabeth CHANEY b. Aug 2, 1821 and
d. July 1, 1867 m. 1841 and was the 1st wife Henry C. GATES, Sarah CHANEY
b. abt. 1824 and married to Mr. HUSE, Jane CHANEY b. 1826 m. 1844 Henry
ZINK, John L. CHANEY, my 2nd great grandfather b. 1827 d. Dec. 8, 1898
Tidal, Armstrong Co., Pa. m. Sophrona A. MYERS, David CHANEY b. abt. 1828.
There was also a daughter b. abt. 1822 and married to a Mr. MYERS. Two of
these daughters are not counted in the 1830 census.
By the 1840 census Broad Top Twp. has been formed and the CHANEY's are
living in that area without Richard who has died. Rebecca is living next
door to Issac GROVE whose wife was Ann LONG.
Rebecca died before the 1850 census and my 2nd ggrandfather is living in
Armstrong Co., Pa.
Any help is appreciated in learning the names of Richard and Rebecca's
parents.
Thank you,
Lona
