"NATHAN CHANEY. I was born in Fayette Co., Kentucky, on the 6th day of
July in 1791. My father was a native of Maryland, and emigrated to
Kentucky about the year 1785. He was a soldier in the Continental Army
and served the greater part of the Revolution. He also served against the
North Western Indians and was severely wounded in St. Clair's defeat. He
only saved his life by hiding himself in the leaves of a fallen tree, and
after night-fall, slipping away." .........................
