Would your Richard Cheyney also be the Richard Chaney who married a woman
named Lydia? I have been trying to identify my John Chaney who was born
about 1824 or 1825-with the census records saying Missouri and one dc saying
Kentucky. He married Mary Jane Dowden in 1843 in Ray County Missouri.
Do you know anything about the John Chaney that came to PA in 1789 with
relatives????

Subject: [Chaney] Searching for Thomas Chaney's father
I am searching for the father of Thomas Chaney, my ggg grandfather.
Thomas was born in 1767 in Maryland, either Ann Arundel County or Prince
George's County. I believe him to be descended from Richard Cheyney, the
immigrant.
Thomas came to Pennsylvania as a young man in1789 with a group of Chaney
relatives:
Edward, Gabriel, John, Greenberry, Lewis and Zachariah. They were
were part of a larger group led there by Jeremiah Duval, a minister and a
doctor, who had land grants in PA.
On 21 April 1795 Thomas married Suzanna Stockwell in Allegany Co., MD,
probably in
Flintstone.
In 1800 he is living in Providence Township, Bedford Co., PA with his wife
who is
about to give birth to twins:(my gg grandfather Asa and his sister)
and Asa's older brother (who possibly died soon after 1800)
Thomas died in 1856 having married another wife, Elizabeth. He had twelve
children
and left a will in Bedford Co., PA, naming those who still lived
nearby.
Census information: There are other Chaneys living in Providence Township
with
Thomas in 1800 (I mention these neighboring Chaneys because kin often
stayed close together in the wilderness):
1. Nathan Chaney: son of Ezekiel Chaney from Washington Co. MD. Both
Nathan and his
younger son die before the next census
2. Charles Chaney: a farmer and his wife both over 45, living with a young
man and
woman under 26.
3. Abraham Chaney: a farmer and his wife, both under 26.
An additional note: I have examined the Washington Co., MD,Chaney wills
from
Charles, Ezekiel and Jeremiah. No son Thomas is listed. Both Thomases
descending from these families, Thomas of Nathan and Thomas of John, died
and left wills in Allegany Co., MD.
I welcome any help you have to offer. And thanks.
