John Cheney born 1814 0r 1821 was married 3 times. He was single in 1863 when
he was in the war. I have not found a record of him being married before
Rhoda Arminta. My gut feeling is that he was married. In his Obit. in 1923
they give a son named George , which I've never heard of.
His children with Rhoda Arminta are John Jr. born in 1867, William
1868, Madison Artemas 1869, Mary Elizabeth 1871, Nancy 1875, Franklin Abe
1876 & Thomas Jefferson 1878
Rhoda had been married to Samuel W. Webb their son was Nathan Z. Webb
born in 1861. He was raised by John & Rhoda. I don't have a death date for
Rhoda. There is a record of a John Cheney marrying a Miss Emma Britt in 1888
in Pontotoc Co. MS. I don't know if this is my John Cheney.
In 1900 he married Fannie Pilcher she had a son named Guy Pilcher
born 1895
I have records of all of his and Rhoda's children except Thomas Jefferson.
He moved his family to Hellena AR. after 1920. I've not located any of his
family.
HI. Just curious if you have the names of John's children?
Hello, Do you have anything to identify the John Chaney/Cheney you are asking
about. I have 9 John Chaney/Cheney's in just 6 generations. This doesn't
include the John Cheney's prior to the migration to the US.
I know there have been 2-3 mentioned in the last couple of posts here. For
the sake of clarity, please try to identify the one you need info on! Thanks
in advance,
Dianne

My great-great grandfather was named John Chaney. Although it appears from
my information that he was most probably not the John Chaney of who you
speak, your e-mail spurred my curiosity.
"My" John Chaney lived in the Lexington County/Orangeburg County areas of
South Carolina. He was born around 1823, possibly in Germany. His middle
initial in the 1850 census was "E." The 1850 census shows that he was a
wagonmaker. He supposedly died in the Civil War (between 1862-1865), but we
don't know where. He went to war and never returned home. I have wondered
if perhaps he "made a new life for himself elsewhere" after the war as we
have no proof that he actually died in the war.
He was married to Zilpha (Zelphia or Zilphy) Jeffcoat , born between 1820 &
1828 and they had seven children. Their first child was born in 1844 and
their last child was born in 1861. The oldest child (a son named Levi
Chaney) died 7/1/1864 in Orange County, VA and was never married.
If anyone has any information to offer regarding John Chaney (or this
family), I would be forever indebted.

Although I don't have any of your Cheney/Chaneys in my database, it is intriguing to note the common name Arminta, which I do have, and Pike County, Arkansas, which is the home seat of my Chaneys. We are the descendants of William and Sarah Scott Chaney, KY>TN>Carroll Co. AR>TX>Pike Co. AR. I also noticed that there is a prior post on Rhoda Arminta; if you put it in the searchbox you should be able to find it. I would love to hear more about Matilda so that perhaps I can help you to find her in Pike Co.

John Cheney lived in Pontotoc Co. MS from before 1870 until his death in
1923
John's Military record says he was in Fayette Co. AL in 1850. His father was
Artemas Cheney born in MA.
I found a census for an Artimous & Rebekah(born in OH) Chena for 1850
in Fayette Co.AL. Their children are John, Artimous, Jane, Mary A. Olive &
Joseph.
John Cheney & Rhoda Arminta Chaney married about 1865/66
I'm looking for Rhida Arminta's family. I believe them to be
Nathan(iel) & Matilda Chaney both were born in NC. They are in Marion Co.
AL1860 census: Nathaniel & Matilda Cheny, with children: Mary 16, Alex 15,
John 14, Nathaniel 10, Nancy 8, Matilda 6, Lydia 4, Abraham 1 & William1
month. Rhoda Arminta (21) was married to Samuel Webb and lived near by
In 1870 Matilda was in Franklin Co. AL with 5 children, in 1880 Matilda was
in Pike Co. AR
I would love hearing from any one on these families or any idea's of
where to look for them.

It might be a good idea to see if he could have been married twice. I
actually have him from the Shipman family connection. I don't know if he is
actually related to my Chaney side at all, but being in the same area makes
you wonder.

Diane,
I have the info on Georgianna fromthe 1850 census, and put in the info on the
Lusby family.
It's funny how you can go back to infinity on some lines and can't get diddly
on others.
Oh, well.
THanks for trying,
Jacqui
Yes I see Hiram alot too but don't know if there is any connection. I
do remember that my dad's people were painters and I think may have
worked on the railroad when it was being built.

Let us remember to live life
moment to moment,
one memory at a time.
Georgianna Chaney, is in the 1850 US Census. The information is as follows:
Enumerated on the 18th October, 1850
Maryland
County: Anne Arundel
Twnship: 4th District
Image: 208
page: 370
Roll: M432_278
Georgianna is listed this way:
115-108-William Armigor, 22-M-_ M. Laborer
Ann Armigor, 45-F-_ F
Georgianna Chaney, 20-F-_

************************
I didn't look much further. I am certain you can find some follow-up
information on Georgianna, There is a family tree on Ancestry.com that lists
information about her, regarding her marriage to Samuel Lusby, dob and dod.
Including a pot load of younguns!!
She has Georgianna as being born 04 may 1829 died 27 Feb 1892.
The person who posted this tree is:

Hello Ya'll!
I have had some real stumbling blocks and those famous "brick walls". This
week I learned something: You are NEVER too old to learn something new!
I was up against trying to find an accurate birthdate in the late 1800's. I
was so frustrated because none of the information FIT what the person had
told me before she died. Upon investigation I was told the building that had
held the records, had burned and along with it, her birth certificate etc.
A woman, obviously an angel in disguise, asked me for the name of the person
or family I was trying to locate. A week later, in my post box was a huge
thick enevelope from her. It was copies of dept of health Vaccination Records
as well as School Census records, and other tidbits of their life that filled
in the many blanks that I had.
I had never even THOUGHT of looking for dept of health or school records.
Thank goodness that old dogs can still be taught new tricks!
Have a great day Folks!
Dianne
