My GGrandfather was John William Franklin Chandler. He married M. R.
[Rebecca] Garvin 1873 in Sunflower County, MS. They had 4
children. Elizabeth [Lizzy], Missouri, John William Franklin, Jr,
and Samuel. Sometime during the 1870's they moved to De View, AR.
Rebecca died March 1880 when Samuel was born. The Grandmother [Martha
Garvin] brought the 4 children back to MS. I have never been able to
fine anything about John William Sr. I don't know when or where he
was born. Do any of you have this name in your files. I also have
Chandler's on my Mother's side of the family. I know somethings
about that family but as far as I know I can't connect them to John
William. I would appreciate any help. Ruth Coleman Halajian

I have CHANDLER in that area but only know about Keziah Chandler
who married
Abram Voorhees.
She was born about 1818 and if the census is right she was born in NY.
According to a Civil War
Pension file she claimed to marry Abram 25 May 1836. They are found
on the
1840 census in Ovid,
Seneca county, New York with two young children.
The pension file indicates Abram abandoned the family in the spring
of 1858)
Keziah and the children, 4 boys and 2 daughters are living with
different
families in 1860.
The four boys all served in the Civil War and Wisner was killed -
it is his
pension she filed for.
In 1870 Keziah and the children are in Ovid, Clinton county, Michigan.
William Chandler Voorhees was my ancestor and he moved back to Seneca
county, NY
but Keziah and some of the others stayed in Michigan.
In North Star Cemetery, North Star, Gratiot county, Michigan:
Kaziah Voorhies age 68, died Nov. 22, 1887
There is also a record of a Voorhis child buried 1908 next to Keziah.
So far I have not located Keziahs parents or siblings but since she
named a
son William Chandler
she may have had a brother by that name. Please let me know if you
find a
connection and I
will let you know if I find anything.
My mother is Geraldine Voorhies - she will be 89 this July.
