The message response to jhngwn(a)bellsouth.net gives a history of the
origins of the name Chandler. The last line of the history says
"Plymouth, Mass. was the first and most important location of the
Chandlers in
America."
You will probably receive a number of responses to this statement
about the first Chandlers in America, but just in case nobody else
responds to this statement, I will set the record straight. The
Chandler Family Association (CFA) has well documented the first
Chandler arrival in America. In their February 1999 Newsletter (and
in other earlier Newsletters) they identify many Chandlers who came
to America in the seventeenth century from 1607 - 1699.
In the February 1999 CFA Newsletter, the narrative about John
Chandler says "John Chandler immigrated to Jamestown VA from England
in 1610 in the ship Hercules. He was the first Chandler to immigrate
to the American Colonies and apparently the youngest as he arrived at
the age of 10. ........" The Newsletter identifies sources for
their statement.
