I've "rescued" an old photograph of W. G. CHANDLER which was taken at the
Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have
been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with the man in the photograph likely in
his 20's at the time it was taken. The photograph was recovered along with
others belonging to the 1878 Class from Brown University including both
students and faculty.
Based on that I was able to locate Walter Gardner CHANDLER in the Class of
1878 so I'm of the belief that this is a photograph of him. Based on
limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding
Walter and his family as follows:
Walter Gardner CHANDLER was b. 29 Mar 1855 in Douglas, MA to parents Erasmus
Darwin CHANDLER (b. 12 Aug 1825) and Eliza ARNOLD. Census records provide
the following detail:
1880 census of Santa Rosa County FL: - boarding in the home of Edwin & Kate
ROBERTS
Walter G. CHANDLER, age 24, a School Teacher, born MA, parents born MA
1920 census of Raleigh, NC:
Walter G. CHANDLER, age 64, born MA, parents born CT/RI, a Salesman
Carrie B. CHANDLER, wife, age 62, born WI, parents born VT/MA
Douglas CHANDLER, son, age 27, born IL, a Salesman
I am hoping to locate someone from this CHANDLER Family so that the
photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this
family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
