The known children were Seth Clark Jr. (1782?) who married Asenath Corbin about 1808,
and Lucy born about 1786. Lucy married Elkanah Corbin Jr. about 1804.
There is much conflicting information. A name other than Chandler is given in one
source as the children's mother. However, Seth and Asenath named a son Chandler.
Other names which often repeated in this family were Betsy(1810), Susan(1812), Lucy,
Abigail, Dorcas (1818)
and Lemuel (1814).
Seth Jr. was supposedly born in Pomfret, Conn. There is no verifiable record of
this. Lemuel Clark reported in the 1880 census that
his father had been born in Mass. Simeon, a child of Elkanah Jr. and Lucy, reported that
his mother, Lucy, had been born in Mass. In fact, it cannot be verified that Seth Jr.
and Lucy were brother and sister.
Elkanah Corbin Sr. and Seth Clark Sr. likely knew each other from service in the
American Revolutionary War. One source states that Seth Sr. probably died around 1787.
Seth Clark Jr. and Lucy Clark were likely raised in the Dudley, Mass./ Thompson,
Conn. areas to become acquainted with Asenath and Elkanah (Jr.) Corbin.
I am hoping that this information will ring a bell with someone who has an old
Chandler family Bible or other information.
