Hi,
I have a Chandler mystery! Bear with me while I explain....
My ancestor Monroe Brown Chandler b. 1851 lived in MS at the time of the
Civil War, later moved to Louisiana.
The family story is that his father was Weldon E. Chandler, born in
Kentucky, and moved to MS sometime before the Civil War. He died during the
war in the confederate army. Married 1) unknown, before 1851, died young
(children Monroe and Gabriel); married 2) Widow Stephens before 1860 (4 more
children).
Weldon's father was supposedly John Y. Chandler who lived in Kentucky.
I have found a lot of information on Chandlers in Webster and Henderson
Counties, Kentucky, and someone sent me a tree of these Chandlers (including
a John, son Weldon E.) going back to North Carolina.
I've found a John Chandler with wife Malena, son Weldon E. in the Henderson
Co. KY 1850 census. I also have a marriage of Weldon Chandler to Martha
CREWS in Henderson Co, KY in 1850.
However, the will of Martha Crews's father Williamson in 1880 (KY) bequeaths
1 dollar to "my daughter Marthy Chandler wife of Elden Chandler". According
to my family story, they would have moved to MS and both be DEAD by that
time!
I also found a database on the web that lists Weldon Chandler and wife
Martha Crews having a son John born 1854 in KY. That doesn't match.
I haven't found any Chandlers in MS yet that match up with mine.
I'm looking for anymore info anyone might have about Chandlers in KY or MS
that can help me figure this out.
I would like to order military records for Weldon Chandler, but I don't know
his county, unit or anything.
Help! Thank you!
