Hi Donnie
We are not related, but I have been doing a world-wide study of the Chandler
surname for more than 10 years (described at
http://www.one-name.org/profiles/chandler.html).
It looks to me as if your mother is the Audrey E Mericle aged 3 months who
appears in the 1930 Census of Vernon County Ward 4, Louisiana with her
father Collis M Mericle aged 23, a Powder Worker in a Stump Plant (something
to do with logging, I think) and her mother Essie D Mericle aged 17. They
had been married for two years.
Because he has a less unusual name, it is harder to find your father in the
1930 Census. He could be the James Chandler aged 7 months in Chelsea,
Shelby County, Alabama in the home of his parents Andrew Chandler (28), a
Block Setter in a Saw Mill, his wife Allene (19) and other son Charles aged
2. Andrew and Allen had been married for 3 years.
Do any of these names ring any bells with you? If so, or if you have ANY
other information that might help in this search, please let me know.
If you prefer, you can e-mail me directly at dchandler(a)sunwave.net
Best wishes
Dick Chandler in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada

I am researching a Chandler line and have run across these Chandlers in
Cumberland Co., KY. I am interested in them because they have their roots
in
Franklin County, VA and I am chasing a different Chandler from Franklin
Co.,
VA who also settled in KY for a time. They must be related; I think Thomas
Chandler may be in my lineage; John Chandler is a son of Thomas Chandler.
I'm not sure how Reuben fits int.

Here is all I have... If anyone has more to add I would love to hear it,
especially if it involves Thomas Chandler's connecton Franklin County, VA:
Thomas Chandler of Franklin County, Virginia
1786. This Thomas Chandler apears in the 1786 Franklin County, Virginia
Personal Property Tax List.
1787. Thomas Chandler is mentioned in early court records of Franklin
County,
Virginia, where he (and William Chandler) are to be added to a list of
hands.
1787 Thomas Chandler married Charity Elliot on 13 Mar 1787 in Franklin
County,
VA.
This Thomas Chandler is almost certainly the Chandler of that name who
settled
and died in Cumberland County Kentucky.
Chandlers of Cumberland County, Kentucky
Cumberland Country. Cumberland County is in south-central kentucky and was
formed from Green County in 1798.
County,
VA.
Some time between 1787 and 1810, Thomas Chandler (along with a Reuben
Chandler) migrated to Cumberland County, Kentucky.
1808. John Chandler married Winifred/Winney Literral on 05 Apr 1808 in
Cumberland County, Kentucky. Other early Chandler marriages in Cumberland
county include Samuel Laugherty and Polly Chandler (also on 05 Apr 1808)
and
Bily Chandler and Judith Fair (05 Dec 1815).
1810. The 1810 Cumberland County, Kentucky Census shows three Chandlers
living
in Cumberland County: A Thomas Chandler, a John Chandler, and Reuben
Chandler.
Thomas and Reuben were both over 45. John was between 16 and 24.
The Thomas Chandler household also included 1 female between 26 and 45, 1
female between 16 and 26, 2 males between 10 and 16, 1 male 0-10 and 2
females
under 10.
The John Chandler also include 1 female between 16 and 26, and 1 female
under
10.
They were neighbors near the town of Burksville. Other nearby households
were
Smiths and Litterals.
1818. There are Land Records in Cumberland County, KY, showing land
exchanged
between a Benjamin Chandler and a Scady Chandler. This is most likely the
Scady Chandler of Putnam County, Indiana. That Scady was born in Virginia,
but
grew up in Kentucky.
1819-1820. There is a Cumberland County, KY, record of lands owned by a
deceased Thomas Chandler distributed to his widow Chanty and sons John and
Benjamin Chandler. There is also a record of land being sold by John
Chandler
to Scady and Benjamin Chandler, the heirs of Thomas Chandler.
1820. The 1820 Cumberland County, Kentucky Census shows three Chandlers
living
in Cumberland County at that time: Charity Chandler, over 45, the widow of
Thomas Chandler (transcribed as Chanty in the Cumberland county land
records),
and Thomas Chandler's two sons: Benjamin Chandler, between 16 and 26 and
John
Chandler between 26 and 45.
The Charity Chandler household also included 1 male between 10 and 16 and
1
female under 10.
The John Chandler household also had 1 female between 26 and 45, 1 female
between 10 and 16, 3 females and 2 males under 10.
The Benjamin Chandler household also showed 1 female between 16 and 26, 1
male
and 1 female under 10.
1823. County Probate Records show a John Chandler died in 1823 and that
his
wife, Winifred (Litteral) Chandler was made Guardian of their five minor
children, Polly Chandler, Cinthia Chandler, Betsey Chandler, Thomas
Chandler
and Elsey Chandler. Mary "Polly", Cinthia and Thomas Chandler moved
to Indiana
and then Texas.

I did find that Thomas Chandler received land in Cumberland County
Kentucky 18
Aug 1800 on Marrow Bone Creek and John and Benjamin received land there
later.
(Kentucky Land Grants, Vol 6).I thought this might have been for service
in the
Rev. War.I don't know if this is any where near Burksville. Our real
ploblem
is not knowing when and where they were born. I tried to get cemetery
records to
no avail. We know John died in Cumberland County and I assume Thomas did
too. My
Delilah was born in South Carolina abt 1788 according to the 1850 Cherokee
County Census and married William George 08 Jan 1811 in Hamiliton County
Ohio.
Their Children were born 1811-1829 in Indiana. Two of the Chandler girls
and the
oldest George girl were married in Indiana before going to Texas in the
1830's. I could not find William George and Delilah on the 1820 Indiana
Census. There are Georges and Chandlers South of Licking River in
Kentucky.
?
I did find a Thomas Chandler and others on the 1790 Census in South and
North
Carolina.
