Hi Vickie
According to George Chandler's book "The Descendants of William and Annis
Chandler Who Settled in Roxbury, Mass, 1637", Philemon was the son of
William and Elizabeth (Chandler) CHANDLER. They were cousins, and
grandchildren of Philemon and Elizabeth (Rogers) Chandler of Andover.
Philemon was the 5th of 5 children, none named Lavinia. Philemon was b 14
Dec 1783; bapt 21 Dec 1783 in Andover; m. first, 11 Aug 1801 Asenath CASE.
They were published 20 Jul 1801 in Bethel, as both of oxford, Me. he m.
second, 9 March 1820, Mary Whiting.
Philemon's older brother, Jacob married Lavinia CASE [nothing is stated
regarding her relation to Asenath] 19 March 1807.
The Chandler Book doesn't include William BUTTERFIELD in its "Index of
Names Other Than Chandler", so I can't help you there.
.....but I hope I've helped some!
Happy New Year!!

I'm looking for information on Philemon CHANDLER, b 1783.
He was supposedly a son of William CHANDLER of Andover.
He is listed on the 1810 Albany, Oxford Co. ME census and
supposedly married Asenath CASE. They moved to Hillsborough
Co. NH ca 1816. He's listed on the 1820 census in Merrimack NH
and the 1830 census in Society Land NH (near Antrim NH).
Who were Philemon's parents? Did he have a sister named Lavinia?
My husband descends from a Lavinia CHANDLER who married William
BUTTERFIELD
and lived in Antrim, Hillsborough Co. NH. She had a
daughter named Asenath and a son named Luther. Philemon had a
son named Martin Luther, who was known as Luther, and his wife was
named Asenath. Coincidence?
I appreicate any help.
