Thanks! I am very interested in the information. I would like to see
it online.

I'm searching for leads on siblings and parents of Mary Ellen CHANDLER, b.
about 1805 PA (county unknown), who married James RICHARDSON, (marriage date
unknown) either in PA or OH. Following are their known children and spouses
(other children were possibly born before 1832).
Elizabeth 1832 OH
Samuel Rankin 1834 OH m. Emily Taylor PITCOCK
Margaret 1837 OH
Martha 1839 OH m. Thomas STEPHENS
Susan Rebecca 1841 IL
Mary Ellen 1845 IL m. Greenberry WHITECOTTON.
The earliest known record on Mary Ellen CHANDLER is her enumeration as Ellen
RICHARDSON, head of household, in the 1850 Williamson Co., IL census
indicating she was 45 years old and born in PA. The death certificate of Mary
Ellen (Richardson) WHITECOTTON identified her parents as James RICHARDSON and
Mary Ellen CHANDLER.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Susan,
I have a lot of information concerning Jesse Chandler and his descendants
to include wills and other documents. I also can track some of his
descendants - particularly his son Moses.
I have been trying to get past my stone wall which is a Thompson Chandler
b. Feb. 11, 1811 somewhere in the area of SW VA around
Patrick/Henry/Franklin Co. along the NC border. Thompson was married in
Giles Co in 1831 and I have almost complete information on him and his
descendants. I have strong indicators that he was the son of a William
Chandler married in Patrick Co. in 1809. This William was probably the
son of a William from Surry Co. NC.
Now to Jesse- The reason I have a great amount of material is that in my
efforts to find Thompson's ancestors, I analylized the census reports for
all Chandlers in SW VA who were in a distance of Giles Co. (I originally
thought Thompson was born there) to possibly have been his parents. Since
he was born in 1811 I concentrated on the 1810 census and found there
were only three possibilities and two of them were only remote
possibilities. The Main possibility was Jesse Chandler of Franklin Co. I
was lucky to find an excellent genealogist in Franklin Co and I paid her
to research Jesse and family. I have a lot of material she uncovered -
BUT - it served to prove that Jesse was not Thompson's father - even
though Jesse's son Moses was living in Giles Co. during a number of years
that Thompson was there. They were the only Chandlers in that Co. at that
time and both were of an age to have been brothers.
The information I have on Jesse is at variance with the information
published by the Chandler Family Association. There notes have him living
in that area and then moving to SC. This move did not happen, he can be
tracked in Franklin Co for many years. Unless there were two Jesse's in
the area (and that is possible, but no record of two being there at the
same time has been found), then the SC Jesse could not be the same one as
the Henry/Franklin Co. Jesse.
This is all the time that I have to respond this morning. I will be happy
to provide the data I have (at least part of it, there may be over 100
pages and some is not relevant). I will abstract this info and send it in
a later message and if you want hard copy, please send your address.
DO ANY OF YOU CHANDLERS on CHANDLER-L@roots
web.com WANT THIS
INFORMATION? If so send me an e-mail request. If there are enough of you,
I will put it on roots web, otherwise I hate to clutter up the web and
will send it individually.
One more item, I think Jesse was 90 to 100 years old when he died.

Hello Tom,
Your information on Jesse Chandler was most interesting to me, as it covers
the same time frame and general locations of my own personal 'brick wall'...
I would like to know if your Chandler material mentions a JOEL CHANDLER who
lived in Lunenburg Co., VA, before the Revolutionary War, and later lived in
Greenville Co., SC. I descend from his daughter, Millandra Chandler, who
married Moses Sullivan, son of Charles Sullivan, both of whom gave service
from Greenville Co. during the Revolution.
JOEL, as well as Moses, Charles, and several dozen more, are listed on a DAR
monument in Greenville County. Also mentioned are Solomon and Shadrack
Chandler.
There are so many Joel Chandlers of the appropriate age range in and around
Lunenburg County, and I have not been able to pinpoint his parents. He did
sign a proclamation in this county at the beginning of the War...something
about British money no longer usable within their county, I believe. This is
confirmed by information given in Greenville County which states he was the
same individual who signed the VA proclamation.
I realize this is grasping at straws, but I am reduced to desperate measures
with this Chandler!
Thank you,
LaRae Halsey-Brooks

I have traced my line back to a John CHANDLER, born 1789 in SC. He married
Sarah UNKNOWN, born 1789 SC. He moved to MS and was in the 1830 Census of
Simpson Co, MS. Three of their children were probably William 1807 SC,
Jesse 1817 SC; and Joseph 1820 SC.
If anyone thinks they MAY connect to this line, please contact me. This is
one of my long standing road blocks.

Tom,
Ii feel like I have gotten an early Christmas present!!
I would love a hard copy of your data and I can either post my address or I
can send you a SASE and check to defray expense of copying. Does your info
mention Jesse's parents? I have his wife's name as Sarah. Any information is
greatly appreciated.
Obviously theeChandler Family Association is using the deed that I mentioned
in my original post. Perhaps Jesse did live in SC for a short while. There is
11 years between this land transfer and Lucinda's birth. plenty of time for a
re-location. Since his son Moses is listed as being in Giles County in the
1800's and Lucinda was married there in 1833. It seem probable that the family
move to GIles or lived nearthe border of Franklin . Perhaps Thompson was a
nephew of Jesse's who he raised. We too often miss that connection.
Lucinda was married in Giles to Levi Vaught who was 7 years her junior. I
have picture of her although it is a poor one. They both died in Mercer
County WV where they moved later in life. She died 6 days after her husband of
Cholera. They had 5 children 3 sons Ransom, Rufus and Augustus and 2 daus.
Ellen and Mary. I descend from there son Ransom who married his first cousin
Sally M. Vaught.
Have you found any link to the Farguson family? In the 1860 Giles County
census in Levi's and Lucinda's home there is a Robert Farigisom living wiht
them. I figure that is may be a maternal grandfather?
Do you have other Giles County connections?
I am looking forward to hearing from you. If you would prefer to Post the
abstracts that would work for me although it is a lot of work for you. Isn't
it great that someone can benefit from your research even though it did not
pan out for you? I know I have ahd tht Happen to me and it makes me feel as
though my work was not wasted.
