I started researching my connections to the Chandler Family about 3 months
ago. I was lucky not to start from zero, since I had considerable information
sent to my mother from a cousin Wilma (Pauley) Gardman who researched the
Pauley and Chandler families for years. I have had the Chandler part of this
information for years, but just started to expand the project with the help
of my Macintosh computer. The info came from VA/WV cemeteries, census, family
lore, family bible and visits to many county courthouses. I have a fairly
complete direct lineage from Thompson Chandler b. Feb 20, 1811, d. Dec. 28,
1877 and m., to Margaret Smith. One of his Children - Ransom Kiles Chandler -
was married to Mary Jane Cart. I have been able to trace the Cart line back
(using Broderbund's Family Tree Maker and their CDs) to the Karg family in
Germany. I have traced my Mother's line even further back. I have also made
good progress with my Wife's parents Ritter from Germany and Miller from
Kentucky area.
In spite of years of effort, Wilma Pauley Gardman (I have lost track of her
and I am afraid she may be dead) was never able to trace the Chandlers beyond
Thompson Chandler. If anybody can help me past this barrier, it will be
appreciated. I will share any information that I have. I have entered about
450 names into my computer.
My homepage from Family Tree Maker is pasted below. I would appreciate any
help you can provide.

I am researching the Chandler family from the Kanawha County, WV area.
I have information on various branches/lines of the
family (Cavender, Cart, Burdette, Young) on my fathers side and the(
Gay,Dudley,Stalnaker,Morgan,Goode) on my Mothers
side. These records were gathered from a relatives research, family
letters and other sources. I have just purchased Family Tree
Maker for the MAC (this is my second day of use - 3/18/97) and have
already been able to extend and augment some of my
documents. However, I have some information not contained in Tree
maker such as individuals occupations and comments about
certain ones killed by indians, etc. I will be glad to share this
anecdotal info if it relates to your efforts.
I am also interested in finding more information about my wife's
family. Her father was a Ritter, born in Baltimore. His father
(and mother, a Duschl or Deuchell immigrated from Germany to the
Baltimore area, but I have no records for their ancesters in
Germany. My wife's mother was a Miller and I have some records for
Miller, Smith, Wiley, Stafford and Canada). These
individuals were located in the Kentucky area.
I am a retired dentist/Army Officer/Dental School Associate Dean. I am
a beginner at putting Genealogy information together. This
appears to be an interesting hobby and I plan to give the results to
my son and my brother's family.
