I have been trying to follow your Samuel's. I have a Samuel that the information I
have says he was born in Greene Co., MO. He also has a brother Oliver Newton Chandler that
was born there. They were born 1870 and 1877 respectively. We have information from the
funeral home on Samuel that says his father was Jack. We don't know if this is a real
name or a nickname. The documents are almost unreadable on where he was born but it looks
like it is KY.
Do any of you have any information or leads that I might be able to get more information
on "Jack". I am from both lines (long story) but I have not been able to go back
any futher than Jack. Samuel also went by Henry. Different places I can find Samuel and
Oliver Newton but never together or with Jack.. It is said that Jack was married to Sarah
Williams but I also don't have anything solid on that. I have seen in the Dawes Roll a
Sarah Chandler with Samuel or Oliver.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Beverly (Chandler) Phillips

I got the information about Samuel of Louisiana being a son of Samuel
from an email you sent to the Chandler list on August 23, 1998 at 2:23 EDT.
I am sorry if I connected to the wrong family. I can't get about to do
a lot of research on my own, so I rely on what I can get my hands on to
read.
I don't understand a lot about how to research, just trying to scratch the
surface and again I must apologize for my error on this family.
Yes, I believe I connected them at one time, but in digging deeper, I
couldn't make a case for it. No apologies necessary ! I believe you are not the
only one who has connected these folks. And I'm still willing to change my
mind if someone can come up with some proof. It's just that, as of now, it
doesn't seem likely.
You mentioned that you had traveled to Amite County, Mississippi for the
marriage license for Samuel Chandler and Anna Efferson. Did it give you any
clues as to where Samuel was born [he claimed SC] or who his parents were ? Who
married them ? Maybe there is a clue in church records ?
I believe that this is your Samuel in Mississippi in 1830 below, but by 1840
he seems to be in Louisiana.
1830 Not stated township, Lawrence County, Mississippi, p. 547 [handwritten]
Samuel Chandler 1 male [under 5], 1 male [5-10], 1 male [30-40], 1 female
[under 5], 1 female [5-10], 1 female [30-40]
1840 Livingston Parish, Louisiana
Samuel Chandler 1 male (under 5), 2 males (5-10), 1 male (10-15), 1 male
(15-20), 1 male (40-50), 2 females (under 5), 1 female (5-10), 1 female (15-20),
and 1 female (30-40).
