Hello Dick-
Yay ! If you click on the aerial view, you can zoom in and see that there
are actually so very few buildings in the village of Oare. It's darling.
No wonder it's so hard to find. Loved the photos at the second link you
sent. I surely don't know about the exact location of the Chandler home.
It is mentioned in the book, "Chandler Record of the Descendants of George
and Jane Chandler," 1937 [p. 1] as Great Hodge. Apparently it was listed
this way in a bond dated 1683, given by "John Chandler of Oare and George
Chandler of Great Hodge," which stated that John and George were to repay a
loan made to them by a Robert Pyle. I have not seen the original, so I do
not know if that is the correct interpretation.
Thanks for your help !
Linda

Hello Linda
If you go to
http://tinyurl.com/mnb2o4 it will display a map showing the
location of Oare. Many people show the home of this Chandler family as
Greathodge. I believe that this is an error - I think it should be Great
Lodge, in the Savernake Forest.
If you have Google Earth, you can "visit" Oare. And there is a lot of
information at this site
http://www.francisfrith.com/oare,wiltshire/
Let me know if you need more help.
