Whatever happened to Joseph Whitney Chandler (b.
1815),
son of Rev. Amariah Chandler and Abigail Whitney?
I know he was born in 1815 in Shelburn Falls, MA (or
Waitsfield, VT
depending on which book you believe) and married
Adeline Goodnow in 1838 in
Shelburn Falls.
They had at least four children:
Amariah 1839 Shelburn Falls, MA
Gilbert E.W. 1847 Shelburn Falls,
Anne
Frank Herbert 1861 Swift's Mills, NY.
Any other children? (they seem spaced awfully far
apart).
Death Date?
Steve Kraus

You didn't say which books you have seen, but since
you don't have all the
children listed in George Chandler's book I guess
that wasn't one of them.
Chandler's book lists:
Amariah as you have
Stephen H. b. Deerfield MA 29 May, 1841
Moses A., b. Greenfield, MA * Oct. 1843, d. 1844
Anna Whitney, b. 12 Nov. 1844
Gilbert E., b. Shelburne, 1847
Franklin II. W., (sic) b. Newstead, NY 26 Mar. 1861
Of Joseph:
"He was in the U.S. service for the suppression of
the slaveholders'
rebellion."
[which I have to say, for a MA boy who has been
hearing about Yankees for
the last 30 years here in VA, has a certain
freshness of phrasing.]
Of Joseph's father's whereabouts at the time of
Joseph's birth Chandler says
he "was ordained at Waitsfield , Vt, 7 Feb. 1810;
was dismissed therefrom 3
Feb. 1830." Of course the whereabouts of Joseph's
mother is more to the
point, but I don't find that, nor do I find a death
date for Joseph.
Let me know if you'd like fuller detail from this
book or precise citations.
