Seeking information pertaining to the Chandler family of Montgomery Co., NC. The
information I have is rather sketchy and based primarily on the census records for that
area in the years between 1850 and 1900:
Montgomery Co., NC, 1850:
Henry Chandler, 35, laborer, NC
Catherine, 25, F, NC
William S, 15, M, laborer, NC
Martha Jane, 13, F, NC
Winny, 6, F, NC
Duggin, 2, M, NC
John, 2/12, M, NC
Fork District, Montgomery Co., NC, 1860:
Henry Chandler, 59, M, miner
Catherine Chandler, 30/31, F
Douglas, 14, M
John S, 12, M
Susan, 2, F
After 1860, Henry and Catherine disappear from the area. Henry may have died, and
Catherine may have remarried. Of the children, the only one I have found still living in
the area is my direct ancestor John S. Chandler, listed on the 1870 census thru to the
1900 census as living in Eldorado, Montgomery Co., NC. John is shown in the marriage bond
information below as marrying Susanah Hambleton/Hambelton, but I suspect she was a
Hamilton, as there do not appear to be any Hambleton/Hambelton families in the general
area.
