Hello All,
More on Willis Chandler.
Yesterday, I found an entry on
Ancestry.com indicating there was a
Willis Chandler in the 1790 Federal Census for Kentucky. I am not a
member, so I could not pull up the record. I went to the genealogy
library, and could not find a Willis Chandler in the Kentucky
reconstructed census indices.
My g-grandfather was Willis Chandler White, born about 1848 in Kemper
County, Mississippi. His grandfather was Willis Chandler White born
about 1790 in Kentucky. It seems, that somewhere along the line, a
daughter of Willis Chandler married into the White Family. If there was
a Willis Chandler living in Kentucky in 1790, it is a pretty good bet
that either his daughter or sister may have been the mother of Willis
Chandler White I. Based on family legend, I think the Whites and
Chandlers came from Virginia.
The daughter or sister may have been Alice Chandler, and the man she
married may have been John W. White. As you can see, I am grasping at
straws.
I have some other information, as yet unverified that indicates the
Whites may have come from Charlotte County, Virginia, and that is next
to Halifax County, so there might be a connection.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
