Hello,
I am researching the Chandler family of Waynesville, Ohio. I am the genealogy librarian
at The Mary L. Cook Public Library and I am affiliated with The Waynesville Area Heritage
and Cultural Center at The Friends Home, Inc. The Friends 1905 Boarding Home, which is
now a museum and cultural center, was established in 1905 by Indiana Yearly Meeting of the
Religious Society of Friends. The Chandlers were instrumental in the foundation of the
FBH. I am particularly interested in Aaron B. Chandler (1844-1915) who was the first
superintendent of the FBH. His first wife was Abi Carroll Chandler who died in 1901. His
second wife was Lydia A. Conard whom he married in 1908. Lydia was the first Matron of
the FBH.
Many Chandlers of Aaron B.'s generation moved out west to Kansas City, Mo. and Iowa.
One of his uncles moved to Indiana. Another to Illinois. All my genealogy notes on the
Chandlers are down at the museum. I can give more details tomorrow.
I don't believe very many people have researched this line. The Chandlers that stayed
in Waynesville have died out. However, I believe there may be descendents out west.
The family are descendents of Jane and George Chandler. The Chandlers came into the area
of Waynesville ca. 1803 from Delaware and were, in their time, a very prominent family.
They were leaders in the village, Wayne Township and in Quaker Meeting. They were
educators.
