John:
I was very leary about joining the Chandler Family Association, but have been
pleasantly surprized.
At the time I joined, I lived In Phoenix, AZ. One day I got a call from
someone called Annamae Chandler. I didn't know her, but she explained that
she was a winter visitor to the Valley and was staying out in Apache
Junction. Could we get together with our Chandler search?
We met and Annamae looked over what I had and made some research suggestions.
Annemae did have a book she'd published, and it was for sale, but I was up
against a brick wall trying to located "Which John Chandler" was the father
of my Joel. So I bought it. It's been a wonderful reference book for me.
Couple of months later, I was in the process of selling my home had acquired
a new job here in Oklahoma and was getting ready to move.when Annamae called
saying "We've found your John". The Association sent a researcher to
Anniston, ALA (county seat of Benton Co., ALA where John died). Among the
loose leaf papers that they went through was a court record which listed all
the names of his children.
My Joel Chandler was listed as one of his sons. WOW!
I'm still working on my Chandler lineage, but am pretty close to being able
to tie it all together. This past trip to Arkansas supplied me with lots of
information and I got to meet some internet pals as well as new cousins.
I would recommend you join. The Association is based on hard core research,
not on heresay. The researchers go to great lengths to make sure that what
they have to publish is backed up with source material and documentaion. The
newsletters are a bit dry to read, but they're packed full of information and
proof.
I've enjoyed being part of the Association and send them whatever information
I run across about Chandler's. Especially the records, like: Births, deaths,
marriage, divorce, burial places, wills, probates, school, work and land
records..
I highly recommend The Chandler Family Association.
