Hi Chandler List!
I believe the Chandler Family Association is an excellent group to
associate with. I know they have certainly helped me! I just got back from
Washington DC today, with my verified application to Colonial Dames XVII
Century. I already had Timothy Chandler as a Revolutionary War patriot and
First Families of Tennessee member. And I had been working on the Chandler
line for Colonial Dames for over 2 years.
Thanks to Joe Burton and Tom Chandler I was able to finally get in
cemented together with enough "preponderance of evidence" to get back to
Robert whose will was proved in York Co. VA 1669. Mr. Burton has done an
excellent job of tying Robert to John who came in to Jamestown in 1610
(previously listed erroneously as 1609), however there was just not enough
evidence to support that fact. The staff genealogist at Colonial Dames said
he had done an excellent job trying to prove it and perhaps Robert was the
son of John "the ancient planter", but he said he felt like it was just
'stretching it too far in theory'. However, my application was approved to
Robert and that got me in after sweating it out for months trying to charter
a chapter in LaFayette, GA.
And I owe it all to Mr. Burton and Mr. Chandler of the CHANDLER FAMILY
ASSOCIATION. To them I give the credit and my applause. I had researched
hard for over two years, but did not have all those land records to tie each
generation to the other. I descend from Nancy, daughter of Timothy (Rev.
Sol), Joell, Robert, Robert and as far as Joe Burton and I are concerned all
the way back to John the Ancient Planter who came in to Jamestown with Lord
De La Ware in 1610! I am thrilled! Happy Hunting! Alicyne
