Message Board Post:
Am interested in information regarding Timothy Chandler, who had 200 acres surveyed in
Logan Co. KY on the Red River 29 July 1796.
The Logan County KY Deed Book A, page 388, has an entry dated 19 Oct 1797 in which James
Webb, administrator of the estate of Timothy Chandler, deceased, is a party to an
indenture in the sale of 100 acres of land for $500 to Thomas Barker of Robertson Co. TN
(buyer). The land is described as lying between the forks of the Red River adjacent to
the TN state line, being part of the tract granted to Solomon Perkins by court in 1796 and
transferred by Perkins to Chandler, and patent issued to Chandler. Witness: Peyton
Nowlin, Jr and Thomas Hopkins.
I am a PERKINS researcher trying to trace Solomon Perkins mentioned in this deed book
entry. Solomon Perkins had 200 acres of land surveyed 19 October 1796 in Logan County
KY.
Timothy Chandler is listed as having 200 acres on the Red River in Logan County surveyed
29 July 1796.
Thomas Barker had 200 acres surveyed on the forks of the Red River in Logan County 27 July
1796, two days before Chandler. These three gentlemen must have known each other ...
Barkers were in Robertson County TN earlier, across the state line from Logan County.
Don't know where Solomon was prior to 1796, though I suspect he may have come from NC
or SC.
Solomon Perkins later relocated to Livingston County KY before migrating to Illinois in
1807. We find in the Livingston County Deed Book B, page 70, a transaction dated 11 March
1805, Solomon Perkins is bound unto James Kirkpatrick for $1,000 and obligated to make a
good title for 100 acres drawn in the name of Saron Chanler (sic), 50 acres drawn in his
own name, being an additional claim on the waters of Skin Frame, being the balance of 300
acres. Witness: Samuel Hill. Recorded 3 October 1808
I do not know who Saron Chanler was -- possibly the widow of Thomas Chandler?
One of Solomon's sons, my ancestor, married as his second wife a Frances Webb --
don't know if there is any connection to the James Webb, administrator of Timothy
Chandler's estate, or not.
Another of Solomon's sons, Isaac Perkins, married Lewis Barker's daughter Jane in
1813 in Gallatin Co. IL as a young man of 18. Isaac was later killed at the Battle of
Stillman's Run in the Black Hawk War in 1832 in Illinois. I believe that Lewis Barker
was a brother to Thomas Barker (my information is that their father was George Barker,
from North Carolina).
Any Chandler researchers who know about this Timothy Chandler? Any info appreciated.
