In the following will probated in both counties it tells of his friend Patience and his
half brothers and sisters, not his full ones. And were there two Thomas Chandler's
with the same father, one dying at sea in 1781 and the other at home in 1784? Which leads
one to think either a second marriage for John the father or maybe no marriage at all? Any

Thomas Chandler entered the Navy in May, 1776; in July, he was appointed to lieutenant,
Brig Northampton. NBJ, Sept.10, 1778. He was Lieutenant of the ship "Patriot"
when she was taken. He fell into the hands of the enemy and died a prisoner of the
British, on a prison ship off Norfolk, VA on July 25, 1781. (from A.R. Cullen)
