Re Ezekiel Chandler (1790VA) and son "Jack" (1825-6NC)
I have come to the same conclusion although no hard and fast evidence
Jackson and John Wesley were one and the same. Family history has him as
"Jack" but full name John Wesley Chandler. His son was also John Wesley,
and went by "Wes" or "Wesley" to differentiate them. I had always
thought
Ezekiel was his father because of the proximity throughout Jack's short life
(died in the 1860s in his mid-30s), that both had at some point in time
claimed to be "Tinkers" (as was one of theJoseph's also closely
associated).
I think there may be a chance that the Andrew Jackson Chandler born in 1811
in TN was probably a younger brother to Ezekiel, and he kinda went his own
way (although not too far, settling in the upper parts of Laurel while
Ezekiel settled in the Ivy Gap area). No one that I know of has been able
to associate a father for Andrew Jackson (1811TN), and same problem with
Ezekiel.
The 1872 Madison Co NC property action taken by Buckner named Ezekiel's son
as "Jackson," dead by 1872 (and that fits my Jack), but it could be that
Buckner didn't know whether he was just Jack, or Jackson, and this is the
only reference I have found that names "Jackson" Chandler associated with
Ezekiel. He (Buckner) also says that this Jackson's widow had taken other
children with her and gone to Tennessee, which also fits with my Jack's wife
Sarah L. Sams. Further Buckner says that Asa and Terrell were still in NC,
and both can be found in the census (but the birth dates I have are 1851 and
1853) which match two children reported in 1860 census of Jack Chandler,
although the names don't quite match up, as they are reported to be named
Abner and Thomas in census. Why the name differences I wonder? So much
fits, that I am reasonably certain Ezekiel is the father of
Jack/Jackson/John Wesley Chandler.
The Joseph mentioned in the marriage bond of Ezekiel and Susannah could be a
father to Ezekiel, or a brother. I have a hunch, that Susannah Chandler may
be the daughter of Josiah Chandler and Sarah Eddins, as Susannah's birth is
in SC in 1800, and Josiah and Sarah had a child named Sally, or Susannah in
Wattsville, SC that same year, and by 1803 were in Henry Co, VA, and 1804
were in Wilson Co, TN. An Andrew, born 1789 also appears in that family
as well. I have been unable to find any other Susannah Chandler born that
year anywhere, and I can't seem to find out what happened to Josiah's child,
and this is a family that has been pretty well researched. Somewhere along
the way they lost Susannah, and Ezekiel finds one. It takes a real leap to
make the connection however, but it is worth looking at and it is for this
reason I put this on the Chandler list in hopes someone reads this and has a
clue.

David,
Did I send you my update on John Chandler's family where
Jackson
and John Wesley seem to be attached, or did I just think I did???
We're still not sure of them; if you got it, did it seem reasonable to
you or spark any old stories that might make a difference.
Sorry for the delay. This is a tough nut to crack.
