The reason is that executables are the way that virus's are spread. I
would never open a .EXE file from someone I did not know personally that
was received without my prompting. If you have previously communicated
with someone, its probably OK. Its just a warning that most web
browsers/mail clients have built in to alert you to the fact that you are
about to download a file which has the ability to contain a virus, not that
there's one there, its just possible.
