I can't tell you much, and you may know all this already.
The 1920 census has William and some of his family listed in Peggs Twp.,
Cherokee Co., OK. William is listed as b. KY, parents both b. NC. His age
is listed as 56. That may be the only useful information I can offer.
[The family listed in 1920 is wife Tishey, 55, b. MO, par's b. "United
States"; Owen, 19, b. OK; Sallie, 17;Alma, 14; Clint, 12.]
I thought it would be likely that I could find a William Chandler born about
1864 in KY with parents born in NC and a brother Tom by looking at the LDS
1880 census CD set of extractions. The only William Chandler I found born
at the right time, in the right place, with parents born in NC may not be
the right one. I'm not at all comfortable with him, and I'm disappointed
that checking the LDS set didn't yield a clear answer for you.
I found a William T (sic) Chandler. I also looked at the image of the
original page and it is not very clear, but I think it probably is "T."
For what it's worth, this William is the son of Atlas and Harriet Chandler.
There is a NC marriage bond for them--they are Atlas Chandler and Harriet
Parsons, bond date 21 Jan, 1836, bondsman Thomas Clayton, place Person Co.,
NC. In 1880 Atlas was 66, Harriet was 64, and the William who was with them
was the only child at home and I assume their last. So there might have
been a brother Tom. However, there are some trees at Ancestry with this
family and they have no Tom. They all look as though they're from one
source, and it's possible they are wrong. There's also the question of how
sure you are that there was a brother Tom--could the name or the
relationship have been different? In 1850 Atlas is listed in the census in
Dixon, Webster Co., KY with several children, but no Tom. I suppose one
might have come along between 1850 and 1864, and if there were one I guess
one would expect he'd be close in age to William. I also checked the LDS
set for Thomas, and didn't find one that looked promising--it may be that
the census takers didn't find the family at all in 1880, or the LDS
transcription could be incorrect. There are many errors in this set, and
anyone who has looked at the original documents can understand and
sympathize.
