I am looking for a researcher that has compiled a lot of data on the
CHANDLER lines. my long fruitless search for my Grandparents has been a solid brick
wall. Just maybe you have a clue in your files that would get me on the right
track.
I keep looking for a clue for my Grandfather in Washington State in 1900.
The problem is, is that I don't know his name for sure. My father stated on one
record that his father's name was A.J. Chandler and on another record it was
John J. Chandler. He thought his father was from Des Moines Iowa, but on the
1930 census it states that both parents were born in Michigan. It boils down
to that my father could not remember anything about his parents. His Mother
died when he was age three (1903). The Father may have died when Joe was
eight, (1908/9). This was when my father Joe said he left home. I assume he went
to live with another family, relative or not ?.
According to Joe, the only relative he knew of in Washington, was an Uncle
who served in WW1 in Europe. I don't know if this was a Mother's or Father's
brother.
I have written to Olympia and Spokane for Joe's birth record on Sept. 09,
1899, but nothing exist. I have his death and marriage records, but there are
no clues there either. I have not been able to find him on 1900, 1910 or 1920
Washington census records, although I have checked Washington, Idaho, Oregon,
Utah and California.
When I talked to him about his childhood, he would tear up from either bad
memories or no memories at all, although he did know place names of the rivers
in Washington close to home. In the early 1920's he migrated to San Diego,
California. In 1930 he married my mother and I have records from that point
on.
As a last resort I have submitted to a DNA 37 point test. The results that
came back give me a 12 point exact match to three Chandler's that I have
written to. The responses indicate that to be a recent relative we have to have at
least a 25 exact match or better. So far, my DNA does not match that close
to any surnames. Hopefully if enough Chandler's take the DNA test, a match
will surface in the future.
At the present I can only contact other Chandler families in hopes that
someone has a Chandler boy b. 09/09/1899 Spokane, Washington, in their files that
they cannot account for.
Best regards,
