In searching for my ggg-grandmother, Rebecca Chandler, I came across an Abel Chandler (wife Sarah Weston) on the Alden.org website. According to the information there, he was born in 1758, the son of John Chandler and another Sarah Weston . Abel moved from Duxbury, Mass. to Minot, Maine.
He had a son, also named Abel, born in 1795, who I think may have been confused at times with Ichabod Chandler's son also named Abel -- they both couldn't have been married to Elizabeth Davis.
I think that Abel, the father, may have also been the father my Rebecca Chandler and other possibly other Chandlers in Minot. Both Rebecca and the younger Abel later moved to Brunswick, Maine
Anyone know anything about Abel Chandler and his descendants, especially Rebecca?

I have seen where John Chandler of Elizabeth City Va is the father of Robert Chandler of York Co. I am trying to figure out what proof there is of this. Can any one help me. I went to Richmond Library Saturday and they have a new computer system which was not working well so couldn't find any of the references.

I have discovered after seeking the assistance of two knowledgeable gentlemen from the Chandler board, this booklet is not material regarding John Chandler. I had felt it might be from the part I could read about - settled in the early 1600’s naming Virginia as one of the areas. I was in error in posting it under John Chandler, Virginia subject. It should have been under George Chandler, South Carolina
Due to unforeseen changes in my previous commitments, I will no longer have time to devote to research. So my family history research will be on hold for an indefinite period of time. I have asked the board admin. to delete all of my messages, to avoid any further possible confusion in this area. I will not have the time needed to research this booklet further nor will I have the time it would take to share copies of the booklet.
I will make a post when I receive the source info for the attachment on "Grandpa Chandler" in the event that someone has copied it for use in their research.
My sincere thanks again for the assistance provided by the two gentlemen.
Good luck to all,
Barbara

I have a bit more concerning your Samuel Chandler and Sarah Lincoln, although this does muddle things a little.
I think there's a good liklihood that this is your Samuel, despite some inconsistencies, but I don't have proof.
The Attleborough VR (Attleborough or Attleboro is in Bristol County, MA adjacent to Taunton) has on page 70 (births) "Chandler, Samuel Henry, s. Benj[ami]n and Mary (Cobb), Feb. 9, 1824."
In the Taunton VR there's an entry I can't explain, but feel is probably in error. On page 96, Attleborough marriages, there's this in the Chandlers, "Salmon H., single, 22, printer, of T. [int. Attleboro], s. Benja[min] and May (sic) of T., and Sarah H. Lincoln, 20, spinner, of T., d. Fanny S., Oct. 10, 1845, in T. [Salmon H. of Attleboro[ugh], C.R.3."
C.R.3 means the record is from, in this instance, the Broadway Congregational Church (Trinitarian). The VR was published in 1929, so I don't know what that church would be now or what it was in the middle 1800s. I have to get to work, so I don't have much time to look further now. Probably the church records are on film at the Family History Library if the records survived. I suspect that "Salmon" is an error on someone's part. If the record is from the church records it may be that the church was that of the bride's family and the minister wrote the record some days later or perhaps after a long day--there are countless possibilities, but this seems a good fit which you might want to try to pursue.
Let me know if you think I might be able to do anything to help.
I have tried to follow up on Harlow Chandler's helpful reply by checking the
Massachusetts 1850 Census for Samuel aged about 27 and his family. I have
eliminated most of the search results, but the two remaining and most
promising ones (one in Plymouth Co., Duxbury Twp., the other in Norfolk Co.,
Sharon Twp.) link to census images of the wrong county and township. I have
notified Ancestry of these errors, but I do not know how long it will take
for the computer links to be corrected.

Re your query about Rebecca Chandler and her marriage to Joshua D. Welch,
you may already know that the IGI has an entry submitted by an LDS Church
Member showing this marriage occurring in Quebec in 1845, and stating that
Rebecca was born in 1811, the daughter of Barnabas Chandler and Susan
formerly Houghton.
I cannot locate either of them in the Ontario 1871 Census or the 1881
Canadian Census.

Family records have them possibly being from Taunton, MA, but 1880 LDS census records say they were born in CT. Both Samuel and Sarah's parents were born in MA. Frederick and Matilda had one daughter Lillian Maud Chandler born November 7, 1879 in Norwich, CT.
Samuel and Sarah Chandler most likely had another son named A. Everett Chandler born 1860 in CT. As of 1880 all of these Chandlers were living in Norwich CT. The 1900 census has Matilda Chandler and Lillian Chandler living in Norwich with Matilda's sister Sarah Johnson. Frederick Elwood Chandler seems to disappear. HELP!!!
