Hello Rebecca
Thanks for your reply. I tried to e-mail you directly to avoid
overloading this Message Board, but my message was bounced back because the first part of the address you have shown is not valid. Please advise what the address should be.
The computerised New South Wales index of deaths does not contain an entry for Doris Chandler or Doris Percy around 1916. Are you sure about the death details you sent me? Have you actually seen the death certificate? Can you scan it
and e-mail it to me?
There is something about this story that is ringing a distant bell in my ailing memory - I have searched my electronic records to no avail, so when I get your reply I will wade through the paper records I haven't computerised yet.
In your first posting, you referred to a Lily M Chandler. Where does she fit in the picture?
Regards
Dick

Dear Dick,
Thanks for your reply!!!
Doris Chandler was fostered by my GG uncle Montague Percy, and his wife Violet Evelyn, they resided in Harris Street, Ultimo, Sydney, NSW Australia.
Doris was killed in 1916 at the age of 10 from being run over by a motor lorry in darlinghurst, NSW. On her death certificate, it states she was born in Sydney, but the details of her parents are un-known!
if you have any info or could steer me in the right direction, i would greatly apprieciate it.
regards,
Rebecca.

Harlow - Your message made my morning. It's a pleasure to meet you, distant cousin!
The people I mentioned in my message are the first ones I know of north of the USA border, so your message opened up a whole new area for me. If you can lead me to where I might find a copy of that text I'd appreciate it. So far, my research in this line has been concentrated on Russells in New England, with a minor detour through Minnesota. I'd be happy to share any information that would be of interest to you.
I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks again for the information.

Joseph Chandler was the son of Capt. Seth Chandler and Eunice Durkee of North Woodstock, CT. Joseph was born 30 June, 1766 and married 24 Jan. 1793 to Polly Tucker also of Woodstock. Polly died 3 May 1829, and Joseph died 6 Feb. 1830. He is buried in a graveyard on what was his land at Stanbridge East. If you have not tried the Rootsweb mailing list for the Eastern townships you might want to do that. To join the list go here
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/QC-ETANGLO.html
The list is free and easy to get on and off. It is very likely that someone on the list will be able to help you and perhaps find the grave if it still exists.
The couple lived for a time at Fairlee, VT before removing to Potton in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. They lived first at what was called Mansonville and perhaps still is--I don't know. Thomas's _Contributions to the History of the Eastern Townships_ has a bit about Joseph in the discussion of Mansonville. If you are interested and can't find this easily just email me and I'll send you copies of the pages.
Harriet was Joseph and Polly's youngest child, b. at Potton 17 March 1808, married first 10 Oct. 1829 Albro Phelps and second, 4 Nov. 1835 Jeremiah Russell. Hannah was the fifth child of the Russells, there was one Phelps child. She married Solomon Russell of Sutton.
The Chandler line back from Seth is Joseph>Joseph>John> William and Annis, the immigrants. William and his wife Annis came to Roxbury, MA in 1637 as part of the Great Migration of puritans to the Masschusetts Bay Colony. Their son, John, was one of the first settlers of New Roxbury, later Woodstock, which was for a time part of MA, then of CT. Their son Joseph lived at Pomfret, CT, and we share that ancestor. Oddly my Chandler line also went to Quebec--this was three generations after our common ancestor, and I have no idea if they were aware of each other when they were there.
The Chandler line is found in George Chandler's _The Chandler Family_ and I'd be happy to send you more detailed information from that if you need it--I can't be sure from your posting whether you already know all this. The Chandler line in England is known back to about 1475.

I am searching for information on the CHANDLER family in Quebec. I have the following (not much) so far: Joseph CHANDLER married Polly TUCKER. They had a daughter Harriet CHANDLER (b abt. 1808 in Potton, d abt. 1849 in Potton) who married Jeremiah RUSSELL (b abt. 1803 in Danvers Mass., possibly died in Stanbridge ). Harriet and Jeremiah had a daughter Hannah Jennie RUSSELL (b in Stanbridge, date unknown) who is my gggrandmother.
I saw mention somewhere that Jeremiah was buried in CHANDLER CEMETERY and wondered if anyone knew where this might be.
Thanks to anyone who can offer insight or direction.
