Ahhh...thanks Jimmy, I think I had the two Elizabeths (in your case, Lizzy) confused in
the other post concerning an Elizabeth Chancey marrying the Smith gent.
If you would, I do not have Gus Chancy in my data base, but have most of the rest of the
Live Oak bunch. Could you send me his parents if you know?...
The Chancey / Sanders connection I have in Florida is John Ira Sanders married Elizabeth
Ann Chancey Abt. 1882 in Brevard County, Florida. She was a daughter of Jacob C Chancey
and Martha 'Matilda' Jones.
The surname swaps back and forth between Chancey and Chancy..and sence about 1900, a lot
of the Florida clans changed to Chauncey. Those were the decendents primarily of Jacob who
is related to my Folkston Ga. Chanceys. The ones in Live Oak came down the line from
Jeremiah Chancey or Chancy who settled in what is now Clinch County Ga. near Homerville
Ga.
My own great gfathers death certificate shows Chancy..his son, Wade Lee was the informant.
They both have Chancy on this certificate, but have Chancey on their stones at Sardis
Cemetery in Charlton County.
In the 1920 Charlton census, my entire family, including my father was enumerated as
Chancy, but by the time I was born in 1932, it was Chancey...go figure.
Hey!!...wait a minute. I do have "Gus" in my base...he was born Augustus C
Chancey February 05, 1883 in Live Oak. Married twice, 1 to Ella Ruth Starling October 27,
1907 in Live Oak, no further infor for Ella. Married 2 Elizabeth 'Lizzie Gertrude'
Saunders (and I understand about the Lizzy vs Elizabeth..this is what I have in my base as
it was given to me.) November 19, 1911 in Live Oak. You have indicated Lizzy was named
Lizzy Sanders...I wonder where that Lizzy Gertrude came from?..ohh, I see...she was Lizzy
Sanders, her middle name was not Sanders...do you know about the Gertrude part?..
He died September 16, 1963 in Plant City, Hillsborough County, Florida. She died July 13,
1981 in Dover, Hillsborough County, Florida.
I have 7 children fot Lizzy and Gus, and none for Gus and Ella.
Just in case you need it and do not have it, Gus was a son of Elijah Jackson Chancey and
Artie Morris. I show Elijah as being born in Charlton County Ga. in 1862...if this is
correct, he is part of my clan somehow...I do not show his parents.
The only Chancy/Chancey that was in this region having children at this time (1862) was
George R. W. Chancy, son of Samuel, my ggreat gfather. George's first wife Louisa died
in early 1860, he remaried Mary Jane Hurst we think she was a Hurst...and some of his
children are presently lost. My great gfather was in the CSA at the time. George and
Samuel were the only two males of Samuel Sr. that were married at the time.
