I was just told this story about the 4 brothers this past weekend by my uncle who is in
his 80's. I have never heard it before.. Curious about the Chances (Chance, Chancey)in
1973 my grandmother tried (unsuccessfully) to find her great-grandparents names. She wrote
to many places in the south (I have the response letters) It appears in 1973, the same
brick wall.
My uncle does not know if the 4 brothers meant 2 in addition to Pleasant William Chance b
1819 and Joel Chance b 1830 or 35. (buried in Phillips co KS) or if it meant P.
William's and Joel's father had 3 other brothers.
As the story goes...there were 4 brothers, 2 came over and 2 went back (or stayed back?).
Never heard from them again.
I will call my aunt and uncle and have them write their acounts down. I am sure Granny
(pleasanet William's daughter, my grandmother) told them this story. I have never
found any other siblings to P. William and Joel, but I know who their children are.
I would have never read this post until I ran across the same story.. literally gave me
chill bumps.
If anyone has any further information, email me Denise_Werner(a)msn.com or call
605-999-5859.
