Hello Mary,
I am Robert Chancey. Samuel was my great gfather and Caroline Carter was my great
gmother.
Sadly we have not been able to prove back beyond South Carolina. Samuel was born about
1790 in SC, but there the trail ends.
Several of us have been trying for about 5 years to find the door thru the brick wall, but
the records are just not there. So many were destroyed in court house fires, and what
didn't burn in those fires, General Sherman destroyed.
I have one document that shows Samuel Chancy as Samuel C Chancy Sr. I don't know where
the Samuel J. came from, unless it was from Bladen County NC where there was a Samuel
Jackson Chancy in the 1800s.
Please check my website Mary for our family...it is not 100% correct, but as close as I
can make it at the moment.

My Aunt Janie (Amy Jane, Wade Lees sister) told me when I was about 17 or 18 that she had
been told of 4 brothers that stowed away on a ship, came to the new world and "took a
chance" changed their name to Chancy. We now know that there is no truth to that
tale...but undoubtably she had been told that as fact. Everywhere you go, different
families have different, but simular tales.
Email me at k4yaw(a)hotmail.com and we can get what I have for our family to you as needed.
Or reply to this and I should get it that way.
