Message Board Post:
Hello everyone,
I'm currently digging for my second g-grandmother, Elizabeth Chauncy/Chancey who
married my father's maternal great-grandfather, Arthur A. Pinner. I was told she was
the daughter of Nancy Moody. I thought I had this nailed down but now I'm not so sure.
The problem is that my Elizabeth was always called Eliabeth GORE by my father's
family, so all his notes reflect that. I could find absolutely nothing on her for 10 years
now.
In 2008 I got a letter from a Pinner researcher that says her name was not Gore, but
Chauncy, and she was the daughter of Nancy Moody Chauncy Warner. Evidently Nancy was born
a Moody, married a Chauncy (who died young) and after having Elizabeth and a few other
children, married antoher man named Warner. On the death record for one of Elizabeth'
children, George, his mother's name is listed as "Warner", which is the only
other evidence I can find of the Warner connection for Elizabeth's mother Nancy. That
led me to believe the info I recieved was correct about Nancy and Elizabeth. However, I
still had no info on Nancy's husband. I only had one name, Jeremiah Moody, who was
Elizabeth's uncle and Nancy's brother.
So I finally found a family that contained Nancy and Jeremiah Moody and lo and behold,
that Nancy Moody was listed as having married one Christopher Chancey (this coming from
LDS I was happy, but cautious and looking for confirmation elsewhere). Only there was no
more info on Christopher. So now I have Chauncy and Chancey as possibles for
Elizabeth's maiden name.
Just last night I discovered some posts here that suggest that a Christopher Chancey
married Nancy RAULERSON at the same time frame I'm looking at in Georgia. I thoguht
little of it---must be a different Chancey, just happens to be in the same time, in the
same place in Georgia I was looking for. But then the children listed matched with what I
had for Christopher Chancy and Nancy Moody!
Can anyone out there there clear this up? Do I have the same Nancy and children, only the
wrong last name (again??)? This branch is one of my brick walls I've been working on
for a decade now and I can almost taste the solution...it's got to be close but
I'm just not seeing it.
Here's my info such as it is:
1-Christopher CHANCY (1829-3 March 1863)
Nancy MOODY (1832-October 1915)
. . . . 2-William Riley CHANCY (1858-4 November 1868)
. . . . 2-Jeremiah CHANCY (1858-25 November 1868)
. . . . 2-Isabel CHANCY (1858-6 August 1884)
. . . . 2-Elizabeth CHANCY (1859-after 1889)
. . . . Arthur A. PINNER (1849-)
. . . . . . . . 3-Anna PINNER (-May 1969)
. . . . . . . . 3-Erastus PINNER (27 November 1879-1955)
. . . . . . . . 3-William PINNER (31 May 1881-1920)
. . . . . . . . 3-Limuel PINNER (5 August 1885-1957)
. . . . . . . . 3-Jesse PINNER (19 November 1887-1952)
. . . . . . . . 3-George PINNER (1 November 1889-24 March 1920)
Limuel Pinner was my great-grandfather. His daughter Josephine Elizabeth married my
grandfather James Albert Vaught. My grandmother was named for her mother. My question
remains, what was *her* mother's name? Moody or Raulerson?
thanks for any help or suggestions!!!
Steve Vaught
