How frustrating! Even Alvin's death certificate is blank as to his parents. Thanks for
the guardianship info--since Matthew is listed as Alvin's father in the 1900 Census,
that's how I had him down (I was curious as to why Alvin didn't show up among
Matthew's children in 1880, but it wouldn't be the first census error I've
stumbled across).
Curiously, there's a similar situation with Alvin's son William Obie's wife,
Myrtle May French. Myrtle shows up in 1910 and 1920 Censuses as the grandchild of Zeke and
Josephine (Benton) French, and the only child of theirs old enough to have had her is
their daughter Anna L. French. But without proof, I'm left with the possibility that
she was taken in and made an honorary grandchild.
If either of you know anything about Myrtle French, or have further info on Alvin Orlander
Chancey, I'd love to hear it.
Laura, I see in your posted tree you don't have Minnie Ola McKenzie's family
beyond her father. I'm pretty certain Thomas J. McKenzie's parents are Andrew J.
McKenzie and Catherine Barbaree, who were married in Muscogee Co. Georgia in 1850. If
you're interested, I'll email you the evidence, or post it here.
One final question: you have Thomas J. McKenzie's wife Perry Lee with the last name
Jones--do you have a marriage record for them?
Thanks!
Marlys Pearson (whose husband's grandmother was William Obie's daughter Ruthie Mae
Chancey)
