The 1850 Dale County census I have been sent indicates Rhoda's birth state
as NC, and she may very well have been born in NC. Alexander married her
in Darlington District SC about 1816/17, maybe a little earlier, this time
frame was based on Rhoda's approx age, b. about 1798. 1820 Kershaw Co,
SC Census, pg 4, Alexander Chancey, 1 male 26-45, 2 females under 10, l
female 26-45. Her age bracket here dosn't seem correct as compared to the
1850 Dale CO. AL. census where she says she's 52 Ys/O. If the 1820 Kershaw
census is correct, she would have been born by 1794 or earlier. Perhaps
by 1850 she was fudging on her age a tad...ladies are known to do that,
LOL
The two of them were adm to her father, Samuel Mixon's estate January 1,
1821 in Darlington District SC.
Alexander was born in Bladen County, and they came to SC in 1807, so the
Mixons may have come in sence Rhoda was born as well.
Census data is just a starting point anyway...there is no telling who did
the talking when the enumerator stopped by. Some son or daughter maybe,
or the wife/other relative..who knows. I have seen several birth states
swap back and forth between SC and GA for 2 or 3 census's.
Case in point. There was a Zachariah Chancey, born about 1805. The 1850
Ware County GA. shows a SC birth state, the 1860 New River County County
FL. shows a GA. birth state...so, its whoever does the info giving to the
enumerator.
