Hi,
I just posted an old newspaper story reporting that the WALLACE and CHANCELLOR families of
Virginia would be emigrating to Texas in order to farm cotton. It said that Samuel A.
CHANCELLOR of Rappahannock ("with his family and servants" [slaves]) and his
brother-in-law, Henry C. WALLACE, had passed through Warrenton on their way to the Lone
Star state. It didn't specify where they intended to settle. but most pre-Civil War
settlers went to the eastern half of the state or to south Texas, which were somewhat
safer from Indian attacks, particularly from the Comanche tribes.
This was scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of the The Texian Advocate
newspaper (Victoria, TX) dated May 15, 1851, and you can see it online here:

I hope it's helpful!
