Dear Ruth,
I have a John Chance who was the son of Benjamin and Jane Howard Chance of Pa... they
moved to Ohio bet. 1810-1820. Their son, John, was b. March 31, 1784 in Chester Co., Pa.
and moved to Hamilton Co., Ohio in 1817. These dates don't match up to your data but
this is the line of Pa. Chances that did migrate to Ohio, beginning around 1730 onward,
during this timeframe.
Several researchers are currently working on this line and their cousins and uncles...
your John might be the child of one of the early Samuel's, one of which was
Benjamin's father. Samuel I had 4 sons listed in his household on the 1790 Bedford
Co., Pa. Census... we only have a name for Benj. II at this point, he being b. bet.
1740-1753. A Samuel, b. 1775-1793 went to Ohio around 1800 and was the first of this clan
to do so, and might be the relative alluded to in the Ohio River Ferry data. More work
needed... lots of speculation at this point.
