Corrections
Benjamin I, b. 1740/2 in Bromsgrove, England, m. abt. 1773 Jane HOWARD.
Benjamin's brothers were Wm., Joseph, Thomas, and John. (Think we forgot
Samuel-nothing in writing only a pitiful memory, but seems to be coming back)
Benjamin (lived in NC, Pa., OH, died in Harrison Co., OHIO)., before 1820
Hilda says on pg. 121 that "In the SHARPLESS Family Book, Benj. Chance was born 1740
m. Nov. 1773 to Jane Howard....
" this is correct -- Jane HOWARD's grandmother was a SHARPLESS - believe that is
where the confusion comes in..
Believe Benjamin I, b. 1740/2 in Bromsgrove, England
And Samuel are brothers, sons of a William (they came to America after William the
Emigrant - whom I believe to be their Great grandfather) -
Samuel married a REBECCA (not Rachael - check source - misquote from Hilda's book) -
they had a son named Benjamin b. abt 1753 MD - he married a Rachel - think this maybe
where the Rachael comes in that is buried in Jersey Co., ILL
The DAR has a incorrect listing on this Benjamin. (this is the NC>Grayson Co., VA line)
- Benjamin is NOT the son of John, Richard
The point could be argued - but feel the mistake has been made through the obvouis mix up
between Benjamin I and nephew Benjamin.
More than likely someone mixed the two together many years ago, without realizing
"someone" was inquiring about "Benjamin the son of Samuel, William".
-- They gathered information on Benjamin son of William. Then topped it off with Sharpless
- again Jane Howard's line.. It's mind boggling how simple this really is!!
Same line - easy mistake.
Believe one of the errors has been made through not realizing we are descended through
William the Emigrant's son William.
Our family came to America later than William the Emigrant
There were at least two, very possibly three William's behind the Benjamin I, b.
1740/2 in Bromsgrove, England, m. Jane HOWARD
"Jane Howard's mother's name was Perry, suggesting that this is where the
Perry name originated in this family." (I could not have said it better myself) --
this being the OHIO line.
Anyway through this line of William the Emigrant's son William - this came to America
later - feel it quite possible that - this line has been twisted into descends of Richard
- it is NOW a BIG twisted mess.
I myself am hoping to find children of Benjamin2, Benjamin1 --- the son of Benjamin Chance
and Jane Howard - born abt 1773/5 in Chester Co., PA - his children may have spread though
Harrison and Coshocton Cos., Ohio - and very possibly farther.
