Dear Earlayne,
Please make note of the BENJAMIN CHANCE and JANE HOWARD line.
Hilda's quotes; "IN THE SHARPLESS FAMILY BOOK: Benjamin Chance, born 1740 m.
Nov. 1773 to Jane Howard, dau. Of John Howard, b. 1725, Chester Co., and wife, Elizabeth
Perry, who d. 1790. John Howard was the son of Henry and Hannah (Sharpless) Howard. The
records stop here. Jane was disowned by the Quakers, 1773, probably for marrying outside
the faith." [Several references to Quakers] John and Elizabeth (Perry) Howard had
children: Peter, Grace, Perry, Mary and Jane, (who married Benj. Chance, son of Wm. Chance
of Burcot, England)."
Why was Jane Howard Chance listed in "The Sharpless Family Book" ??
Just to remind you - Hannah Sharpless Howard was the grandmother of Jane Howard Chance.
"The Sharpless Family Book" has NO listing for Rachel / RachAel Sharpless
marrying Benjamin Chance.
From Hilda's book p. 185
The list of Benjamin and Jane
(Howard) Chance has been changed many times. I will now, list the ones we am sure of ..
with asterisks
* John Chance b. 1784 m. Mary Glass
* Samuel Chance b. 1785 moved to Ohio
* Benjamin Chance was in Bedford County with brother or father. We lost his trail in Ohio
* Perry Chance b. 1787 m. Levina Reuble in Ohio
* Curtis Chance b. 1795 m. Violet Stenens in Ohio
I understand your interest is in an Alexander - would he be the one listed in Harford,
Maryland in 1790?
Bearing in mind Benjamin Chance and Jane Howard married in 1773 in PA - it is highly
unlikely they could be Alexander's parents.
Have you tried the variation of Chaunce / Chancey / Chauncy?
Does Alexander have a son Wiley?
Best of luck in your search.
Good-Bye
