Louise S. Chance, 88; Recognized Business and Service Club Leader in San Diego during the
1960s Louise S. Chance was a resident of San Diego for 73 years, having graduated from
Hoover High School and then San Diego State University in 1939. She became a licensed

Diego. Her very successful business career in San Diego covered almost four decades with

could potentially ruin their lives. As a young girl, Louise became a member of the CAMP
FIRE GIRLS. The personal benefits she received as a young person from this experience led
her to dedicate twelve years !
of her adult life to the Board of Directors. She also spent 20 years on the Board of
Directors of the CROSSROADS FOUNDATION, which provided a home for the rehabilitation of
women alcoholics. Other volunteer passions included countless hours working as a director
of the SPEECH AND HEARING CLINIC AT SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY, BIG SISTERS LEAGUE, THE
DODSON HOME FOR THE AGED, USO ARMED SERVICES, HEART ASSOCIATION, ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION, and
was the founding member of the San Diego chapter of QUOTA INTERNATIONAL, a womens '
service organization. As a result of the thousands of dedicated hours she gave these
organizations and the leadership role she achieved, Louise received many awards. In 1964
and 1965, she received the KEY TO THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO for outstanding service and
achievement. She was also awarded WOMAN OF THE YEAR for San Diego in 1965. In 1966, she
was awarded San Diego WOMEN OF VALOR and received a CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION from the
County Board of Supervisors!
. She also received many other National awards for service to organiza
tions that helped women of all ages maximize their ability to be successful in all aspects
of their lives. Louise is survived by her son, W. Major Chance, and his wife, Judy, as
well as their two daughters, Tami Louise Rumbaugh and Ashley Monique Chance. The family
resides in La Jolla. It is the family ' s desire that Louise be remembered by making a
