I have this couple correctly placed in Delaware. This is Alexander "Yeoman"
Chance, first identified by Hilda Chance in her early book. The family unit includes
their son, Edmund/Edmond and daughters,Mary and Rebecca, as well as another unnamed
sister. Also named is a brother to Edmund/Edmond, John, who died aft. 1774. This John
also had a son, John, b. abt. 1774. These sourced from Calendar of Delaware wills, New
Castle, Co., De., 1682-1800.
Alexander II "Yeoman" Chance was the son of John "Yeoman" Chance,
who died March 20, 1727/28 in Kent Co., Del. Alexander had both a sibling named John, who
died 1760, Kent Co., Del. (Admin. by brother Alexander II) and a son named John, b. abt.
1725.
From Calendar of Delaware Wills, 1680-1800, (Appoquinimink) New Castle
Co., De., 1773: "Alexander Chance. Yeoman. Appo. Hd. Dec. 23, 1772 Jan. 12, 1773
-Will Bk. K, pg. 57- Wife, Elizabeth; dau., Rebecca; sons, Edmund and John; dau. Mary
Allfoard; grandson, John Chance; grandson Thomas Allfoard; grandau, Elizabeth
Fields." Eliz. Fields is the dau. of dau., Rebecca. Thomas is the son of Mary
Chance and her 2nd husband, Moses Alford. Unknown which brother is the father of
grandson, John Chance, also named above... but I'm attaching him to son, John Chance,
until further documentation can be found.

published fro Genealogical Publications of the National Geealogical Society, # 10:

Edmond Chance
Note that sibling, John,b. 1725, is not listed here in 1790... he might have gone to NC by
that date. There is, however, a John Chance(grandson?) listed on the 1810 Census in
Cedar Creek Hundred (Del.).
I have not heretofore firmly connected the Delaware John, b. 1725, to the NC
John/Edmund/Ezekiel, although it is quite possible that this is the same lineage. The
birth date of 1725 fits both of them. Carolyn Keeton identifies Edmund/Edmond as being b.
1723... Carolyn, can you provide your source for this date? If this date is correct, the
1725 birth year for sibling, John, carries more weight.
NOTE: Tim Mattingly (gtm.3(a)insightbb.com), letter/report to me dated Jan. 3, 2003 gives
the NC John a death year of 1764 in Orange Co., NC. This John is the father of Ezekiel
"Zeke" Chance of NC.
The John Chance of Delaware is reported to have died there "aft. 1774" (the date
of the birth of his son, John) in Delaware. If this is the case, these cannot be the same
John. Further work required to confirm if the Del. John died in Delaware, before any
possibility of merging these two Johns.
Hope this helps.
Earlayne
