Evelyn, thanks for your message. I've run into Absalom and Nancy also, but
haven't been able to prove a connection to my family. Nancy could be the sister of
Samuel Owen and the sister-in-law of Margaret Chance Owen. Absalom could be the brother
of Margaret. Here's what I do know. Absalom Chance at the age of 36 mustered into
the 88th Ill.Infantry, Co. C, 8/14/1862. At about the same time, Andrew J. Owen joined
the same company. Samuel and Margaret Chance Owen's oldest son was named Andrew J.
Owen. If they are related, I don't know why the two men would join an Illinois
Infantry when they both came from Indiana and Iowa. It makes sense that an uncle and
nephew might have wanted to serve together. I believe the Ill. Infantry Andrew was shown
to be 23 years old, but "my" Andrew would have been about 30. I'm sorry I
can't be of more help to you. I'll keep working on it.
