Greetings,
I have an original 1899 bond from Kansas. It reads:
Official Bond - Road Overseer - State of Kansas - Chautauqua Co., ss, Julius Hilbert,
chosen Road Overseer in Road District No.6, in the Township of Little Caney and County of
Chautauqua and John Chance and Henry W. Cook his sureties, do hereby jointly and
severally agree to pay to the State of Kansas Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars,
Now if said Road Overseer shall safely keep and pay over to the proper person or
authority, all moneys which may be collected or received by him, or which may otherwise
come into his hands by virtue of his office, and duly, honestly and faithfully discharge
and perform all and singular his duties as such Road Overseer, according to law, then this
bond shall be void, otherwise to remain in full-force and effect.
Dated at Niotace (sic) this 9th day of December 1899.

Official Oath of Road Overseer - I do solemnly swear, That I will support the
Constitution of the United States , and the Constitution of the State of Kansas, and
faithfully discharge the duties of Road Overseer, So help me God.
