Alexander's date of birth can only be best guessed as "abt. 1755".... this
date is gleaned from Census records in 1800, where he is listed as "over
45"....
source: "1800 Montgomery Co., NC Census... Two sons are listed w/he and Nancy
as "under 10" yrs. of age, so I believe there may have been other children born
to this union that have not been identified... 35 yrs. of age (at their birth) is a bit
old for a couple to begin child-bearing. We do know, however, that there was an older
son, Elijah, in the family.
Elijah's birth is best guessed as b. bet. 1779-1819 (WFT est.) The 1800 Montgomerly
Co., NC Census record would indicate he had to have been born by 1755 for this age to be
correct on the 1800 Census, and in alignment with the ages of his 2 younger sons, James
Wiley and JBC.
There is an Alexander on the 1790 Harford Co., Md. Census, (along with 1 male, under 16
(Elijah?) and the ESTATE of, Appoquinimink Hund., New Castle Co., Del. Census but no
proof that either of these is our Alexander.
We know that he died in Marion Co., Ill. in 1833 by his will.
Nancy's age is also "best guesstimate"... she is guessed by WFT as being
born "bet. 1758 and 1781"... although on the 1800 NC Census, she is listed as
bet. 26-44... from that, we can only be sure that she was at least a year younger than
Alexander. Nancy's 3 known brothers were born between 1755 and 1761, but there were
several other siblings born to the Bell's, making it difficult to narrow her birth
year down any further.... I've done no work on the Bell's and my data comes from a
Mr. Rollwage whose work was done at the NC Archives in Raleigh.
Hope this helps.... more work needs to be done researching the Delaware and Md. Alexanders
to determine if our Alexander is descended from one of them.
