These names are close to mine, but I don't know how. My ancestor, John Clark Wilcox
(1775-1837), son of Arnold Wilcox and Susannah Champlin, born in South Kingstown or
Westerly, RI, raised around Stonington, CT, moved to Sherman, Chautauqua Co., NY, in 1825.
John Clark had 5 lines of descent from the Hazard family.
John C. Wilcox's uncle, Robert Wilcox (1753?-1808), of Lebanon, CT, had a daughter
Mary, who married Aaron Brown. Robert married Sarah Wilbur.
I'm familiar with the Hamburg, Michigan, area. It was strictly Indian country in
1807. COuld it refer to Hamburg, NY?
I would be interested in reading the letter. As my Wilcox family connects to the
Champlins 2/3 times and to the Hazards 6 times (much intermarriage among cousins), I might
be able to help.
