This is correct: Jeffrey (1), Christopher (2-3-4), John (5) Champlin married
Thankful Thompson and they had a son, John (6) Champlin who married Hannah
Congdon and they in turn had a daughter named Thankful (7) Champlin.

I think you are both right. From what I have found (but have no proof of)
is that:
John Champlin (born 1732) married Thankful Thompson (b. 1737).
John and Thankful had a son and named him John too.
John Champlin, Jr. (b.1759) married Hannah Congdon (b. 1759).
John and Hannah had a daughter and they named her Thankful (b.1782).
So I believe there were two John Champlins (father and son) and two Thankful
Champlins (grandmother and granddaughter).
