My interest is in Samuel L(evi) LANHAM and Martha E(llen) CHAMPION, who were
my father's mother's parents. Samuel LANHAM and Martha CHAMPION married in
1873 in Washington Co KY. With help from list members, I had previously
located Samuel LANHAM as follows:
1850 Marion Co KY: Samuel LANHAM, age 4, in the household of his parents
Asberry and Sarah (MEADOWS) LANHAM
1860 Washington Co KY: Samuel L. LANHAM, age 13, in the household of Sarah,
his widowed mother.
1880 Monroe Co MO: S.L. LANHAM, age 33, in Indian Creek Twp, with Martha E.
LANHAM, age 29.
However, as for Martha CHAMPION, I had previously been frustrated in attempts
to locate her anywhere prior to her 1873 marriage record or 1880 census
listing as a LANHAM.
I now "think" that I have found her in 1870 (Washington Co KY), though there
is a twist (good news, bad news). In 1870, Samuel LANHAM is age 23, in the
household of his widowed mother Sarah. There are many LOGSTON or LOGSDON
households nearby, consistent with information that LOGSDONs interacted with
LANHAMs in numerous instances (including the appearance of Alice LOGSDON as a
witness to Samuel and Martha's wedding). Also nearby is a household of three
headed by John CHAMPION [34, born KY]. In the household are an Ann CHAMPION
[24, born KY] and an Ellen CHAMPION [19, born KY].
I am drawn to Ellen CHAMPION because 1) my Martha CHAMPION was apparently
Martha Ellen CHAMPION in at least some records; 2) "Ellen" is living in close
proximity to Samuel LANHAM, and 3) "Ellen" is exactly the right age to be be
Martha.
Assuming Ellen is my Martha (that's the good news), the bad news is that I
have failed to identify her parents. John CHAMPION and Ann CHAMPION seem
more likely to be siblings to Ellen/Martha, suggesting the parents had passed
away. Which brings me to my question: Can someone help me identify the
parents of (apparent) siblings John (born c1836), Ann (born c1846), and
Ellen/Martha CHAMPION (born c1851)? Also, if anyone can either support or
shoot down this thinking that Ellen is Martha, I would greatly appreciate
hearing, either way.
Thanks.
