Any chance your Nutters were Quakers? If so you might find some information
in their old Monthly Meeting minutes, which have lots of interesting personal
details. My early Champions seem to have become Quaker somewhere along the
way, and it's been a great source for some early information.
I did not find any Nutter or Joel Champion listings in the Ruth Crawley
Champion book, but then she basically only followed her own and her husband's
line, which, happily, happened to include my great-great-grandparents. Some
offshoots in the late 1700s or perhaps early 1800s went to Ontario County NY,
but Mrs Champion didn't follow them in her research. Others she dismisses as
"went west." (Many have no place attached to them--they are just names and
dates.) The majority in the first part of the book remain in NJ.
But I found in the same book a William Smith Champion 1862-1930 who m.
Victoria __ in TX.
Happy hunting.
